Workout 6 Hills - Schoolhouse Lane, Ridge Ave, Levering/Lyceum (the wall), Falls Rd, Strawberry Mansion Bridge/Greenland, Black Rd.
Bike - Kona
I was worried about getting rained out today but I looked out the window at 4:40 am and the streets were dry. I checked the doppler radar online and didn't see much so I put my contacts in and found my $8 Home Depot clear protective glasses. I put my clip on fender on the Kona. For a change of pace I decided to do Schoolhouse Lane, which I think is a 12% grade. I turned around and went right back down. Then I did Ridge Avenue which turned out to be a little longer than I remember. I went down Shurs Lane and thought, what the heck, let's do the wall. At about 5:45 am I was at the base of the Levering on the cobblestones under the trestle in the dark behind a lonesome Philadelphia Inquirer truck. I was half afraid the truck might roll backward on me. As usual when I got to the steep part of the wall at Lyceum my heart rate sky-rocketed. I managed to stay in the middle chainring but I was going 4.2 mph. Tough hill! At the top it started raining slightly, then it stopped. I recovered and went down Shurs Lane again. Then onto Falls Rd, where it started raining again. At Black Rd it really started raining hard, but then it stopped. So far, my contacts/clear protective glasses set up has been the best for protecting my eyes in the rain. My glasses are useless as the rain collects on them and I can't see. By the end of the ride the rain stopped. Still had to wipe the bike down and lube the chain. My legs are pretty sore from this workout.
